Airstream Introduces New Rangeline Class B Touring Coach For The Van Life

Airstream’s latest touring coach is the 21-foot (6.4-meter) Rangeline, a Class B motorhome which seats four and sleeps two (or four with a roof canopy option). Compact enough to maneuver easily, yet sizable enough to feel spacious inside, the gasoline-powered camper can run all of its electric appliances with a single fuel. The Rangeline is Airstream’s first motorhome built on a Ram ProMaster 3500 chassis, coming in at a significantly lower cost than Airstream’s Mercedes-based Atlas and Interstate touring coaches.

Power Sources

The Class B Rangeline is founded on a front-wheel drive chassis. Its drivetrain is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 280 horsepower (209 kilowatts) and a TorqueFlite nine-speed automatic transmission.

All of the Rangeline’s kitchen appliances are electric. They include a 3.2-cubic-foot (91-liter) refrigerator with a 0.4-cu ft (11.3-L) freezer, a 0.7-cu ft (19.8-L) microwave, and a stowable 1,000-watt induction electric stovetop. A 270-Ah deep-cycle lithium battery, 100-amp charger, 200-W solar panel, and 2,000-W inverter come standard.

The motorhome’s hydronic ambient heating, hot water system, and 2.8-kW generator (which is capable of running the air conditioner) all depend on the same gasoline that powers the engine. The Rangeline includes Firefly Multiplex Controls for management and monitoring of the onboard systems and lighting.

Amenities Aplenty

An elevated bed aft sleeps two with space underneath for storage. Airstream offers an optional pop-top on the roof with room to sleep two more. The screened pop-up canopy includes a fan and LED lights.

The Rangeline has a sliding side door and a screen door for ventilation without insect irritation. Above the door is a roof-mounted awning that can be extended for use with the door open or shut. Legs and spring-loaded tension arms keep the manual-crank awning in place.

The RV’s wet bathroom comes complete with a sink, shower, and toilet. All exterior water and sewer hookups are discreetly concealed under aerodynamic panels.

In the galley, a bottom drawer offers slide-out access to removable food and water bowls for pets. Outside along the running board is an integrated tether point for a pet’s leash.

The interior panels of the vehicle’s rear doors are compatible with Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment (MOLLE) such as packs, accessories, and straps. Bikes, luggage, and more can be secured in place using the L-track storage system built into the floor of the Rangeline.
