Editorial Ad Helps Sell 2023 Freightliner Business Class M2 106 Plus In 2 Months
Omaha Truck & Trailer, Inc. (OmahaTruckTrailer.net) Sales Manager Bill Jochim knew selling the company’s 2023 Freightliner Business Class M2 106 Plus RV hauler would present a unique challenge. RV haulers appeal to a specialized audience of buyers who tow large fifth wheel, horse, and other trailers, and this unit had been customized by Western Hauler of Fort Worth, Texas.
“We probably had been trying to sell this unit for six to eight months,” says Jochim. “It’s a hybrid-type unit that’s not your typical Class 8 truck that hooks onto a 48-foot van full of potato chips and goes down the road. It’s really designed for an elite group of people.”
Reaching A Distinct Audience
Located in Omaha, Nebraska, Omaha Truck & Trailer sells and leases semi-trucks, semi-trailers, yard spotters, horse trailers, and more. On the advice of Truck Paper sales representative Linda Rinaker, Jochim decided to purchase a half-page editorial ad in the Western edition of RVUniverse magazine to reach RV-focused buyers nationwide.
Available in half-page, 1-page, and 2-page sizes, editorial ads provide extra space for sellers to showcase their assets with large photos, in-depth specifications, top features and selling points, and company contact information. Sellers also appreciate these attractive, attention-grabbing ads for the premium listing that each includes on RVUniverse.com, which are highly visible to buyers worldwide. In addition to a prominent blue border that distinguishes them from other listings, premium listings receive top placement on their relevant category pages.
A 3-Hour Tour
Advertised as having the “power to pull any trailer and the brakes to stop,” the RV hauler quickly drew the attention of an interested buyer in Joplin, Missouri, who flew to Omaha in a Cessna Citation jet to inspect the 49,500-mile (79,663-kilometer) M2 106 in person.
Powered by a 450-horsepower (336-kilowatt) Detroit DD13 turbo engine driving a Detroit DT12 12-speed transmission, the one-owner RV hauler offered plenty to like, including air brakes, an air ride suspension, a fold-down bed, and driver-friendly features such as navigation, cruise control, and power steering.
"He wrote us a check and drove the truck away," says Jochim. "I think the process took less than three hours, and they were gone. I took a check for $190,000, probably the most money I've sold a truck for since I've been here."
After purchasing the editorial ad, Omaha Truck & Trailer sold the RV hauler in just two months.
Get Started Selling
Encouraged by the results, Omaha Truck & Trailer plans to continue following Rinaker's advice to use RVUniverse advertising to market additional RV haulers in its for-sale inventory.
“Linda is great. She has a ton of knowledge, and obviously, she's hard-working,” Jochim says. “If I’m in a jam, she'll take my call from home. She’s the exception rather than the norm.”
