Keystone RV’s Unified Wiring Standard Speeds Up Troubleshooting & Repair

Keystone RV Company is proud of the Unified Wiring Standard (UWS) it introduced a couple years ago, and with good reason. The UWS uses a color-coded and numbered wiring system for all electrical wiring throughout its RVs, making it easy to identify circuits. Keystone claims it is the only “towable manufacturer” to have a wiring standard across all of its products. This solution not only makes it easier to manufacture the company’s recreational vehicles, but also gives owners and technicians a way to trace issues back to their source more easily.

Troubleshoot With Ease

“Towable OEMs typically do not use any kind of wiring standard,” says Mark Bullock, senior VP of engineering at Keystone. “You can have wires that vary from company to company and even from plant to plant. As you can imagine, this creates a nightmare for dealer service personnel and for the consumer, it makes it difficult to troubleshoot, for instance, or add a fixture. With UWS, wires are color-coordinated and numbered according to the circuits they support. It’s much easier to troubleshoot this way. You pull a light down, for example, see that it’s wired orange-white No. 4. You can then go to the distribution panel, find orange-white No. 4 and quickly determine if that’s where your trouble lies.”
