Freightliner Toter Truck Attracts New Owners Via RVUniverse
“My husband loves rebuilding cars and working on cars, and he takes great pride in his vehicles,” says the former owner of a pristine 2009 Freightliner toter truck she recently sold via RVUniverse. “We have several street rods, and we used to trailer them to car shows. My husband preferred a Freightliner instead of a truck, so we purchased this in 2015.”
Built and customized by SportChassis, the Freightliner RV hauler was especially plush and well-furnished—great for comfortable travel over long distances. “We've trailered our street rods, all Pro Streeted with big engines, big tires, etcetera, all over from Pennsylvania (where we live) to Florida and to Nevada.
Time To Sell
“In 2017, we purchased a 38-foot (11.6-meter), fifth-wheel Pinnacle camper, and this was a beautiful ride,” she continues. “Tennessee is our favorite place. We love Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.” But in 2022, her husband became seriously ill. “The Freightliner sat for several years,” she adds, eventually deciding “it was time to sell.”
The Freightliner Business Class M2, upfitted by SportChassis as model RHA114, was “loaded with every option available,” including a complete strut grill package, in-motion satellite TV, and an extra 50 gallons of fuel capacity. It had a 330-horsepower (246-kilowatt) Cummins ISC diesel engine, 6-speed Allison automatic transmission, and air ride suspension.
“With only 41,000 miles, it was a great vehicle for someone who would appreciate it like my husband did.”
A Wise Ad Spend
“After researching other sites, I decided to list with RVUniverse,” the seller continues. She submitted photos and a few details about her Freightliner on RVUniverse.com, and the materials went to ad sales representative Ian Stirek. “Within a few hours, I received a call from Ian, and he explained everything perfectly. He was excellent to deal with and kept in touch throughout the entire process.”
With Stirek’s guidance, she decided to run a half-page editorial ad in the Eastern edition of RVUniverse magazine. An editorial ad shows off a motorcoach, trailer, or (in this case, a tow vehicle) in its best light, with one or more large pictures to show off an RV’s exterior and interior, plus reader-friendly bullet points of its most desirable features.
“I thought it was a little pricey, but I had a high-priced vehicle, and I didn't want a trashy publication,” she reveals. “I have too much respect for my husband.”
The seller also chose the instant featured listing option, so the editorial ad’s premium listing could go online immediately at the top of the search results for its category. Like other assets for sale on RVUniverse.com, the Freightliner’s listing was also mirrored on TruckPaper.com for exposure to a wider audience.
A Web Traffic Magnet
With excellent visibility in both print and online, the seller’s toter truck proved to be very popular among potential buyers. It quickly racked up approximately 48,000 screen impressions and 1,880 clicks to see more details.
“Many of my responses were mostly dealers,” she recalls. “One was very pushy. He wanted both the camper and the Freightliner, but he wanted both for $110,000. I just held out, mostly because I wasn't selling because I needed the money. It would have been a slap to my husband.
“But most people were very nice. Just way too low in price.”
The Right Buyers Come Along
Before long, she heard from an interested gentleman who, along with his wife, splits his time between New York and Florida. “I had several offers, mostly from dealers, but I really liked this guy. And his wife is just super too!”
Stirek says, “They wanted the Freightliner to go to someone that cared for it the same way they did. They found someone that they loved, and could tell the new owner would care for it well, so they went with him over their other offers.”
In late July 2025, about five weeks after listing the truck, the seller sold it to the couple for $93,000, well above its roughly $85,000 market value. “The people that bought it are super nice people. Exactly who I wanted to own our Freightliner!”
After concluding the sale, the former truck owner was happy to be able to spend more time with her husband and grandchildren. “I am very appreciative of the hard work and effort that Ian put into assisting me with this sale. Thanks to your exceptional publications of RVUniverse and Truck Paper!”
