Bringing your golf cart on an RV trip lets you easily tour the grounds and reach amenities.

Playing a new course is one of the most thrilling challenges in golf. A course’s unique layout and eye-catching scenery bring joy to players, and an RV lifestyle gives golfers the chance to travel to new golf destinations on their road adventures. RV travelers struggle to find a safe way to take their gear on the road. Here are some tips for securing and storing golf gear in an RV.

Protect Your Golf Clubs While On The Road

Golf clubs are an investment, and many types of golf bags can protect valuable equipment. Size, wheels, and maneuverability are essential features to consider when looking for a bag. Travel bags are great if you don’t want to dirty your everyday bag in transit. Most soft- and hard-shell travel bags also provide extra storage for balls, shoes, towels, and other gear to keep everything in one place. If you don’t want to invest in a new bag, covers work well to protect the bag you already own.

Whether you choose to use a bag or cover, securing the clubs in the bag is just as important. Using towels or extra clothes is a great way to cushion the clubs. A telescopic pole is another option that extends into the golf bag and takes the pressure off the clubs to prevent them from snapping.

It’s best to store the clubs in the RV, which is climate-controlled. Examine your RV’s storage to find a safe place to store the clubs. You can avoid all issues with a little bit of planning before leaving on a trip.

Know Your Golf Cart & RV

Before heading out with your golf cart, check each course’s requirements because some courses only allow their club cars.

Knowing your cart and its specifications is critical for transportation. A classic 2-passenger golf cart’s weight ranges from 800 to 1,100 pounds (360 to 500 kilograms). Electric golf carts are the heaviest and use rechargeable batteries, while gas-powered carts are lighter and only require a filled tank of gas.

Consider both the weight of your specific cart and the RV’s limit when deciding what carrier option will be best for hauling your golf cart on your road trip. If you are looking for a new or used golf cart, check out golf carts for sale on NeedTurfEquipment.com.

    Golf Cart Transportation

Hauling a golf cart to your destination can be a challenge. However, having a cart with you on RV sites is well worth it for convenience when traveling to various amenities.

Depending on the type of RV you own, you may not need a carrier. A golf cart can be easily transported in the garage of a toy hauler. The built-in garage is extra cargo space and is excellent for hauling any “toys.” It flips down for any easy load or unload of golf gear, plus it is a great use of storage space for those golf clubs!

Another simple option is to haul a small open or enclosed utility trailer along with the RV. The trailer hooks up to your vehicle’s hitch ball and has a ramp to load your cart onto the platform. An attachable golf cart carrier and a trailer are extra expenses, but they’re worthwhile if you want to take your golf cart with you.

You can find a wide range of new and used utility trailers for sale at UtilityTrailersToday.com. Look for flatbed and tag trailers as they are popular for transporting golf carts and items of similar size.

Using a small towable trailer with a weight rating that accommodates a heavy golf cart, such as the Bear Track BTU65144S shown here, provides maximum stability on interstates and highways.

    Alternative Golf Cart Transportation Options

If you don’t want to haul another trailer, opt for a golf cart carrier that attaches to the rear bumper of your RV. Two types, floating and wheeled, can be used with the different trailer types.

Floating platforms have a limited weight capacity and often bounce more, so wheeled carriers are a popular choice to limit the amount of wear and tear on the suspension. Most carriers are at least 5 by 8 feet (1.5 by 2.4 meters), allowing ample room to park your golf cart.

    What To Bring

Most golf cart carrier platforms have straps and other points for securing the cart. Without tie-downs, your cart will probably bounce off the platform while driving. At least four tie-down points are recommended, although more wouldn’t hurt. Ratchet straps and other securing equipment can be found in the RV accessories category on RVUniverse.com.

    Regulations To Consider

Before you hit the road, watch out for road regulations. Fifth-wheel and travel trailers must deal with triple-axle towing regulations. These vary by state, so be sure to research the regulations in each state you plan to travel through. You may need a special license for a golf cart carrier or trailer.
