Go Boondocking With Keystone RV’s OTG Solar Camping Package
Many of Keystone RV’s new campers such as the Cougar Half-Ton come standard with the manufacturer’s OTG (Off-The-Grid) Solar/Inverter Prep, which consists of passthroughs and pre-wiring for solar power equipment. Keystone also offers the optional OTG Solar Camping Package with a roof-mounted solar panel and everything you need to enjoy clean, free energy.
Not only does OTG lower your environmental impact, it also frees you up to camp in more remote locations away from shore power. In many cases, you can also skip the noise, maintenance, and fuel cost of using your backup generator.
Catching Some Rays
The OTG Solar Camping Package includes components from sources such as Zamp Solar. Zamp makes solar panels and electronics in Bend, Oregon, using locally sourced wire, aluminum, and other materials.
The Package starts with a 170-watt panel mounted on the roof of the camper. RV owners can add another pair of panels for a maximum of 510 watts of power capacity. OTG-prepped campers also include a side-mount solar port that accepts input from portable solar panels.Inside the trailer’s pass-through storage area is a 30-amp Zamp solar charge controller and a 2,000-watt pure sine wave inverter. These work in conjunction with the RV’s battery to make renewable energy available to three inverted power outlets in the bedroom, kitchen, and living room.
