Newmar Corporation is a leading manufacturer of Class A motorhomes that the company describes as “dream houses you can drive; anything else is a compromise.” Marvin Miller and Marvin Newcomer founded Newmar in 1968 in Nappanee, Indiana, where it still constructs motorhomes one at a time. Newmar offers more than 10 motorhome models organized into Gas, Diesel, and Luxury categories. The models range from the entry-level Bay Star Sport gas RV to the flagship King Aire luxury model. Newmar also produces a Newmar Mobility Lineup billed as the “world’s first and largest wheelchair-accessible Class A Motor Coaches.” The lineup includes Dutch Star, Ventana, and Canyon Star models.

The Newmar Difference

After leaving their jobs with another RV manufacturer, Miller and Newcomer established Newmar in the late 1960s in Nappanee where Miller was born and raised. The duo reportedly shared a goal to construct the world’s best-quality recreational vehicles. Their first effort was the 1971 Kountry Aire, a fifth-wheel travel trailer Newmar says propelled the company to become one of the industry’s first and biggest fifth-wheel makers. In 1984, Mahlon Miller, then president of RV manufacturer Holiday Rambler, purchased a majority stake in Newmar and led Newmar into the Class A segment in the 1980s. In 1990, Newmar released the Dutch Star and Mountain Aire coach models, which it still offers. Miller eventually acquired complete ownership of Newmar in 1991.

In 1995, the company opened a new 116,000-square-foot manufacturing plant, and in the late 1990s, it began offering full-body paint services for its towable and motorized RVs, making it the first manufacturer to do so. The company has established an extensive U.S. and Canadian network of service centers and dealers, and publishes The Difference magazine, which provides customers with company news, details concerning new innovations and products, RV-related guides, and more.

Features & Technology

Among the innovations and features Newmar offers are its exclusive Comfort Drive steering system and exclusive STAR Foundation. The latter is a steel “superstructure” that Newmar engineers and welds to its diesel and luxury models to enhance the chassis’ strength and durability while also helping to generate a quieter, more stable ride. Comfort Drive is an intelligent steering system that Newmar claims has revolutionized the RV driving experience by actively working to eliminate friction, essentially providing a self-straightening steering wheel for safer navigation. Newmar RVs also come with such amenity options as Wi-Fi connectivity, a Bose soundbar, Rand McNally navigation system, exterior entertainment, and others.
