Airstream Unveils New Globetrotter Floor Plans & Other 2020 Updates
Airstream has announced some changes for its 2020 model year travel trailers, including new, compact Globetrotter floor plans and an optional rear hatch for certain Flying Cloud and International Serenity models.
“Airstream is dedicated to constantly improving and listening to what consumers want and need in a travel trailer,” says Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler. “With these new floor plans, features, and improvements, we are looking to add value, safety, and technology for consumers.”
Four-Person Globetrotters
Airstream’s tandem-axle Globetrotter travel trailer now comes in a shorter, 23-foot (7-meter) version with two front bed floor plans: the 23FB with a queen-sized bed and the 23FB Twin with twin beds. Both 23-foot options sleep up to four people.
The new floor plans give you a Globetrotter that’s easier to tow than its longer 25- and 27-foot (7.6- and 8.2-meter) editions, which sleep six.
Fly Serenely
As for Airstream’s Flying Cloud and International Serenity, a new option for 2020 is a rear hatch available in their 27FB front queen bed floor plans. The aft hatch, previously a special-edition feature, can give you ventilation and a view, as well as help you in loading and unloading your camper. The 27-foot (8.2-meter) floor plan of the 2-axle trailer can sleep six people.
Overall, the Flying Cloud has a whopping total of 16 floor plans, while the International Serenity has 12 to choose from. Both trailer lines range from 23 to 30 feet (7 to 9.1 meters) in length.
Check Your Tires Remotely
Airstream’s Classic trailer with Smart Control Technology will also get an additional feature for 2020. Its new active TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) will show you your tires’ air pressure and temperature on your Smart Control display and smartphone app. The system works whether the trailer is in motion or at rest, unlike some TPMS technologies that only work while you’re driving down the road.
The 30- to 33-foot (9.1- to 10.1-meter), double-axle Classic is available in four floor plans that sleep up to five individuals.
Other Silver Bullet News
As we reported a few weeks ago, Airstream reintroduced updated versions of a couple of single-axle, compact travel trailers harking back to the early 1960s. The new Bambi and Caravel models come in four floor plans ranging from 16 to 22 feet (4.9 to 6.7 meters) in length.
The company also announced that its trailers’ outer storage doors are now rounded to better harmonize with the contours of the exterior shell. Each trailer’s hitch coupler has also been improved to make them easier to connect and disconnect from a hitch ball.
