Airstream recently announced that its new 2020 model year Bambi and Caravel single-axle travel trailers are now available for purchase. The Bambi, which starts at $48,900, is named after the nickname given to all Airstream single-axle travel trailers since the company’s founder, Wally Byam, took one on a historic Airstream caravan from Cape Town to Cairo in Africa. The Caravel, which starts at $60,900, was first introduced in the early 1960s, and while this relaunched model hearkens back to that original design, it features all of the modern amenities you would expect from a modern-day Airstream camper.

“When it comes to our travel trailer lineup, we have set the bar in regard to design, quality craftsmanship, and staying true to our brand heritage – Bambi and Caravel are no exception,” says Bob Wheeler, president and CEO of Airstream. “With the all-new Bambi and Caravel models, we wanted to honor our roots while offering design-forward, accessible, easy-to-tow travel trailers that will inspire new or experienced consumers to explore the world one highway at a time.”

    Specs & Exterior Features

The Bambi and Caravel have GVWRs (gross vehicle weight ratings) ranging from 3,500 to 5,000 pounds, which means they can be easily towed by a sport utility vehicle, crossover SUV, or truck. Although lightweight, these RVs are highly durable and have aluminum or cast aluminum wide entry doors and entry door handles, door hinges, LED taillights, window frames, LP covers, and underbellies. Other features include exterior showers, manual ZipDee patio awnings, cable TV hookups, and LED lighting at the entrance, in the storage compartment, and near the gas and water tanks. Caravel models have dimmable LED patio awning lights, as well.

    Interior Highlights

Both models are available in four floor plans with lengths of 16, 19, 20, and 22 feet. Despite their compact designs, the Bambi and Caravel cleverly use all available space to sleep up to four people, including two in the master bedroom area on a pillow-top memory foam mattress and two more on the convertible dinette. They have panoramic front windows that allow natural light in during the day to make the RV feel more open, which can then be covered at night for a comfortable sleeping environment.

Each model has also two décor options. According to Airstream, the design philosophy for the Bambi focuses on neutral colors for a brighter interior and the Caravel “features a clean, modern palette with bright whites, warm woods, and sharp black accents” that are designed to complement the aluminum surroundings. Other interior highlights include handcrafted Italian lite-ply laminated cabinetry, seamless vinyl flooring, Moen faucets, stainless-steel sinks, spacious bathrooms, and cooktops and microwaves with the option for a convection microwave oven in some Caravel floor plans.

You will find a large selection of new and used Airstream travel trailers for sale every day on RVUniverse.com, including Flying Cloud, Sport, International Serenity, International Signature, and Basecamp models.
