    About Class B+ Motorhomes

What is a Class B+ motorhome? As its name suggests, a Class B+ motorhome falls somewhere between classes B and C, which can make differentiation somewhat tricky. Some models lean more toward the look of a Class B, which is reminiscent of a shuttle bus. Others lean into the Class C look, including cabover space that generally does not support a sleeping area but can be used for storage or as an entertainment center. Some Class B+ models even come with slide-outs to increase the living space when deployed.

Available in diesel and gas models, new Class B+ models often start at around $50,000, but you can find used Class B+ motorhomes for sale starting at around $10,000 and going all the way up to $350,000 or more.

    More Bang For Your Buck

If you like the size and style of a Class B motorhome but want some extra space for friends and family, a Class B+ RV might be the way to go. Instead of an ultra-compact bathroom, you may get discrete shower and toilet areas. The bedrooms, cooking area, and the general living space in a B+ model will often be larger than a Class B but just below a Class C. The rule of thumb with Class B+ motorhomes is that you’ll get everything you’d expect from a Class B model, just more of it.

The larger space offers more flexibility. Some models have Murphy beds, others have queen-size beds, and some offer twin beds that can be converted into king-size beds. Class B+ models often have a larger bathroom that, in some cases, may span the entire rear of the RV.

For those who like to venture off the beaten path, solar panels, water filtration systems, and lithium battery systems enable off-grid camping.

Doing A Lot With A Little Space

The Leisure Travel Vans Unity 24MB sleeps up to two people with a nearly king-size Murphy bed. The van’s Leisure Lounge Plus system has a pop-up 40-inch smart LED TV and dual oversized Ultra-leather swivel chairs with power recliners. The chairs can be arranged in any of six configurations and include headrests, footrests, and pop-up armrests. The residential-style bathroom has a 34- by 34-inch (86- by 86-centimeter) corner shower with a curved glass door, a Corian inset with built-in storage, LED accent lighting, and a skylight.

The Thor Motor Coach Gemini AWD 24KB sleeps up to three people with a jackknife sofa in the living area and two twin beds that can convert into a king-size bed in the rear bedroom. The bathroom has a 27-by 27-in. (69- by 69-cm) corner shower with a curved shower rod and a skylight, a foot-flush toilet, and a stainless steel sink. In the kitchen, travelers have a 12-volt dual-door refrigerator, a 2-burner gas cooktop, a convection microwave oven with an air fryer, and a stainless steel sink with a pull-down sprayer.

    Other Considerations

Because Class B+ units are larger and heavier than their Class B counterparts, chances are you’re going to get lower gas mileage, possibly nearer to what you would expect from a Class C RV. When deciding between a Class B, Class C, or Class B+ motorhome, other key considerations are often maneuverability and the amount of interior space you need.
