Airstream Unveils New 2024 Trade Wind, Its ‘Most Independent Travel Trailer To Date’
Airstream’s iconic aluminum travel trailer family has a new member, the all-new 2024 Trade Wind. Designed to fit between the International and Globetrotter lines, the Trade Wind offers a spacious interior and is the company’s “most independent travel trailer to date.”
At Home Anywhere
Trade Wind has the largest battery bank, solar array, and power monitoring system in Airstream’s history and has a 3-inch (76-millimeter) suspension lift for more ground clearance. The electrical system allows the Trade Wind to set up camp at both campgrounds with full hookups and off-grid boondocking locations. Travelers have everything they need: a bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom, and can run air conditioning without the need for campsite electrical hookups.
The powerful battery bank has a capacity four times greater than most other Airstream models. The 3,000-watt combination inverter and charger is 1,000 W over other trailers and is powerful enough to run a microwave and 15,000 BTU air conditioner simultaneously. The SmartPlug 30 Amp Shore Power Inlet enables connection to shore power for extended periods and recharges the battery bank. Off-grid camping is furthered by a recirculating water heater, a SmartPlug TV and Internet Inlet, and fully inverted electrical outlets to charge devices and run high-power appliances when away from shore power.
Camp In Comfort
The Trade Wind comes in one 25-foot (7.6-meter) floor plan with two interior décor packages. The trailer can sleep up to five people with a queen bed and convertible dinette. Optional twin beds are also available. The half-bath offers plenty of storage and counter space with a separate shower located across the hall. Travelers can opt for a composting toilet to save more water. The kitchen features a large stainless steel sink, stove, cooktop, and refrigerator with the option of adding a convection microwave oven with air fryer. Other options include a roadside window awning and a rear hatch door with a sliding screen.
“Trade Wind is a testament to our goal of innovating with intent and sets a new benchmark for power capabilities in our travel trailer line,” says Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler. “In 1958, our founder, Wally Byam, introduced what we believe is the first travel trailer that didn’t require campsite hookups, and over the decades we’ve pushed the limits of travel through quality design and technological innovation. We’re thrilled to introduce a new model that builds upon that legacy for a new generation of customers who want the freedom to choose where and how they’re going to experience the outdoors.”
