NorthStar Redesigns Its 650SC Pop-Up Truck Camper For 2023 With New Floor Plan & More

NorthStar Campers has redesigned the floor plan of its 650SC pop-up truck camper for the 2023 model year, while keeping its exterior dimensions the same. The revamped camper has a larger, 30-gallon (113.6-liter) water tank, a new slide-in stove with dual burners, and more storage space for batteries.

The 650SC fits full-size trucks, such as Ford F250 and F350 and 2020 and newer GMC and Chevy 2500 and 3500 models, with an ultra-short 5.5- to 5.8-foot (1.67- to 1.78-meter) bed or a standard short 6.33- to 6.8-ft (1.93- to 2.08-m) bed. On a standard short bed, the camper doesn’t get in the way of the truck’s receiver hitch, which allows for towing a boat, jet skis, a golf cart, and so on.

A Long Feature List

NorthStar Campers, a family business, describes the 650SC as a “self-contained” camper because of its cassette-style toilet and interior shower. The manufacturer furnishes the truck camper with several standard features that are options on its other pop-up campers. These include a glass-top sink, a 12-volt compressor fridge with 3.3 cubic feet (93 liters) of storage, a sub-zero-degree insulated compartment, and an insulated dinette window with a shade and screen.

Power features standard on the 650SC include a 175-watt solar panel, a solar controller with Bluetooth support, a 35-amp power converter and charger, and interior and exterior 12-V USB and 110-V outlets, including by the master bed for a continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) breathing machine. The 650SC also comes equipped with a winterization bypass kit and a furnace with auto-ignition and a digital thermostat.

NorthStar sells an optional roof-mounted air conditioner for the 650SC, as well as pre-wiring for AGM and lithium batteries and other accessories. Other options include electric jacks, a stereo system, side and rear awnings, a 1,000-W power inverter, and much more.

Dimensions & Specifications

The 1,650-pound (748-kilogram) NorthStar 650SC camper has 6.42 ft (1.96 m) of interior height when the roof is electrically raised, and an exterior body height of 6.08 ft (1.85 m) at the vent lid and shower dome when the roof is lowered. Overall length for the 650SC is 13 ft (4 m) with a 7- by 4-ft (2.13- by 1.22-m) floor. The camper is available with various wraps (side skirts and built-in taillights) to fit different truck bed lengths.

The cabover section of the camper has a memory-foam mattress 60- by 80-inch (1.52 by 2 m) in size. The bed has 27 in. (686 millimeters) of clearance above it when the roof is popped up, and the mattress can be raised on gas struts to access storage space underneath. A walnut Lagun dinette table opposite the kitchen area has a 37- by 53-in. (940- by 1,346-mm) surface.
