NuCamp To Introduce New Barefoot Teardrop Trailer In December
Teardrop and truck camper manufacturer nuCamp will launch its new, compact, lightweight Barefoot trailer on December 10th at a live event in Austin, Texas. nuCamp and Go Barefoot of England announced a partnership in 2019 to bring Go Barefoot’s “curved, chic, and unique” Barefoot Caravan to the North American market. nuCamp is keeping many specifics about its American version under wraps until the launch but has revealed it will retain various features of the U.K. version while introducing others. What is certain is that nuCamp’s version boasts a retro design that’s very similar to Go Barefoot’s camper, which has a leak-free, fiberglass monocoque body.
A Hint At What’s Possible
Based in Sugarcreek, Ohio, nuCamp has been making teardrop campers since 2004. Its other models include the Tag Teardrop, Tab Teardrop, Tab Clamshell, and Tab 400 Teardrop, as well as the Cirrus 620 and Cirrus 820 truck campers.nuCamp has yet to list specifications for the Barefoot on its website, but technical details available on Go Barefoot’s website put the Barefoot Caravan at 16.7 feet (5.09 meters) long, 6.3 ft (1.9 m) wide, and 7.7 ft (2.3 m) high. The camper’s living area is 9.2 ft (2.8 m) long. The user payload is 529 pounds (240 kilograms), and the towing capacity is 2,645.5 lbs. (1,200 kg).
Inside & Out
nuCamp says it repositioned the exterior door to the passenger side to align with North American campground social spaces and hookups. The camper retains the fetching “baby moon” wheels of the U.K. version, but nuCamp is adding electric brakes, front and rear stabilizer jacks, and a 2-inch (5.1-centimeter) ball hand-crank hitch. In addition to the original’s cassette toilet and freshwater tank, nuCamp is adding a gray water tank and a Nautilus Water Management System to provide quick freshwater control, as well as sanitization and winterization capabilities.
Some interior features worth noting include a repositioned rear window in the center, the addition of nuCamp’s screen/shade system for the side windows, and the inclusion of its signature Alde hydronic heating system to provide central heat and hot water. A central air conditioning system with three drop zones and a ceiling fan/vent are also in place. The kitchenette has a butcher block countertop with integrated two-burner stove and a deep-basin sink with a folding faucet. A compressor-style refrigerator with freezer compartment is also on tap.
