Airstream Adds Fully Loaded Interstate 24X To Class B Motorhome Lineup For Off-Grid Adventures
Airstream recently unveiled its model year 2022 Interstate 24X, which represents a first for the travel trailer and touring coach manufacturer: a Class B motorhome built for adventure. The newest Airstream boasts a 4x4 drivetrain, six all-terrain tires, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van chassis, and a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kilograms). Airstream says the Interstate 24X combines the best-in-class amenities of the Airstream Interstate and Atlas touring coaches with the off-grid features of Basecamp travel trailers.
“Your RV is a tool for adventure, and in designing this van we knew we had to stay true to that simple idea,” says Airstream President & CEO Bob Wheeler. “In the end, our design and engineering teams were able to create something that went beyond our expectations—a functional, gorgeous touring coach that is going to get you right up to the edge of your adventure.”
Get Off The Grid
The Interstate 24X comes equipped with a 188-horsepower (140-kilowatt) Mercedes-Benz 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine that delivers 325 pounds-foot (440 newton-meters) of torque, a Timberline hydronic furnace and hot water system designed for harsh climates and high altitudes, a 42-inch (107-centimeter) LED light bar above the windshield, and a Cummins Onan 2.5-kW generator. Military-grade solar panels and other power components comprise Airstream’s most powerful, advanced off-grid power system yet, and the exterior boasts a scratch-combatting, ultra-durable protective coating for the bumpers, sides, and wheels.
Airstream optimized the Interstate 24X’s 24 feet (7.3 meters) of floor space for hauling adventure gear and transporting extra passengers. An aircraft-grade aluminum L-track storage system built into the walls, ceiling, and floor makes it easy to safely secure bikes, fishing rods, and other travel gear, while overhead and rear bench storage areas provide ample supply storage.
The Centerpiece
Airstream says the interior’s real centerpiece is the sleeping and living areas, which owners can customize in numerous ways, including creating what Airstream claims to be the largest sleeping area in any Class B motorhome. Owners can also enjoy an onboard wet bath, a two-burner propane cooktop and solid-surface countertops, and a microwave. The motorhome’s modular table system makes it easy to mount the table behind either of the two captain’s chairs, in either of two locations in the living space, or outside the door to create a standing work desk.
