Air Ride Suspension Now A Standard Feature On Airstream’s Interstate & Atlas Touring Coaches
Other RV manufacturers might offer air ride suspension as an option, Airstream says, but it believes “comfort and safety while you travel should never be optional.” That’s why the RV manufacturer is including the feature as standard with its Interstate Grand Tour EXT, Interstate Lounge EXT, and Atlas travel coaches. VB-Airsuspension of Varsseveld in the Netherlands is providing the fully automatic electronically controlled system. “No matter the number of passengers, the cargo weight, or if you’re towing a trailer, your travels will always be level and smooth with automatic load leveling,” says Airstream.
Mercedes-Benz Approved
As Airstream notes, VB-Airsuspension is a Mercedes-Benz-approved vendor that’s completed tens of thousands of air suspension installations worldwide. Airstream’s travel coaches with the feature are all built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van chassis. Air ride suspension will replace the stock rear suspension components that the coaches previously used with adjustable air springs and shock absorbers that the company says provide a smoother ride and enhance the vehicles’ “already car-like handling.” Other benefits include less tire wear, improved aerodynamics and vehicle stability, and better fuel economy.
All three touring coaches that now include the suspension measure 24 feet (7.3 meters) long, use a Mercedes-Benz 3.0L V6 turbo diesel engine, sleep two, and include a tankless water heater. The Grand Tour and Lounge are both Class B vehicles that feature a European-style bathroom. The Grand Tour seats up to seven and incorporates a work station area, while the Lounge seats up to nine and includes Ultraleather seats and two widescreen HDTVs. The Class B+ Atlas, meanwhile, features a power slide-out with pull-down Murphy bed, rooftop solar panels, and an Onan diesel generator, among other features.
