Mercedes-Benz Introduces Its First Pop-up Camper Van For The U.S. Market, The Weekender
With assist from Driverge Vehicle Innovations and Peace Vans, Mercedes-Benz is releasing its first “new modern, practical pop-up camper” for the U.S. market. Using a Mercedes-Benz Metris for its platform, the Weekender seats five and sleeps four, including two in an elevating roof that consists of a spring system, a 2-inch (5.08-centimeter) memory foam mattresses, three windows, and USB ports. Mercedes-Benz says the Weekender is ideal for extended road trips, summer vacations and spring breaks, weekend getaways, or “having a comfortable place to work or relax after a surf or climbing session.”
Meeting An Unmet Need
Mercedes-Benz will build Weekender units along with Driverge, a partner in Mercedes-Benz’s Mastersolutions program, the “highest tier” for the company’s commercial vans in terms of quality, engineering, and support. Peace Vans, a U.S. classic camper van repair and restoration provider, will assist Driverge. Because the van is a Mastersolutions offering, Mercedes-Benz says, customers can start ordering units from any authorized Mercedes-Benz Vans dealer this spring, with the first 100 customers receiving a free all-access National Parks pass.
Mercedes-Benz USA Vans Vice President Robert Veit says of the iconic nature and versatility of pop-up campers: “We have known for a long time that this market need was unmet, as evidenced by the high demand for aging existing camper vans still on the road. With the help of our partners, Peace Vans and Driverge, we have utilized the Metris to create a product suited to those who seek adventure, but also need a versatile and comfortable vehicle for their day-to-day lives.”
