Thor Motor Coach 2020 Windsport RUV Motorhome Highlights
Thor Motor Coach recently announced a laundry list of upgrades for its 2020 model year Class A motorhomes, Class C RVs, and toy haulers. For starters, each 2020 Thor will come standard with the Winegard ConnecT 2.0 4G LTE router and Wi-Fi extender, so you can stay connected in more areas as you travel.
In addition, the Class A gas Windsport is getting a flurry of USB charging ports front to back. Let’s take a closer look at this intriguing motorhome.
Sleeps Up To Nine
The Windsport’s five floor plans—the 29M, 33X, 34J, 34R, and 35M—range from six sleeping berths up to an impressive total of nine in the 34J, which includes bunk beds in a hallway slideout. Overall length of the RVs varies from 30 feet, 8 inches (9.3 meters) to 36 feet, 9 inches (11.2 meters). There are four HD-MAX exterior color pattern options for the Windsport: French Blue, Spanish Gold, Paris Night II, and Seville II, the latter two of which are partial paint options.
The three color palettes for the interior décor are called Etched Nickel, Mystic Moon, and Winter White, while the cabinetry options available include Brazilian Cherry and Irish Maple. The flooring is practical residential vinyl; up above, the 84-inch (2.4-meter) ceiling is LED-lighted.
The Windsport comes with a king-size bed with both 12- and 110-volt outlets suitable for a CPAP machine. The bedroom and living area have USB charging ports; the latter also features a Dream Dinette booth. Depending on the floor plan, and the options you choose, your unit may also have a leatherette sofa bed, theater seats with footrests, or both.
The Windsport’s shower has a skylight and a glass door. In the kitchen there’s a residential refrigerator with either double doors or an ice maker, depending on the floor plan. A gas cooktop and oven, a microwave, and a stainless-steel double-bowl sink flesh out the kitchen along with solid-surface countertops and ball bearing drawer guides.
Ride Like The Windsport
The Windsport is built on the Ford F-53 chassis. Its 6.8-liter Ford Triton V-10 gasoline engine produces 320 horsepower (239 kilowatts) and 460 pounds-feet (624 newton meters) of torque. Its rear end has an 8,000-pound (3,629-kilogram) trailer hitch with a seven-pin round electrical connector.
In the cockpit, leatherette captain’s chairs recline and swivel, and the driver’s is power-adjustable. A power windshield privacy shade and a sun visor come standard, as does a big 10-inch touchscreen dash radio with Bluetooth, navigation, and Sirius/XM. The remote exterior mirrors are heated and have integrated side-view cameras for better visibility around you.
LED TVs in the interior and exterior of the Windsport range from 32 to 40 inches, with a 49-inch living area screen for the 34R. A Blu-ray player dishes out high-definition entertainment to the HDMI-connected system.
Most Windsports have a 50-ampere detachable shoreline power cord, dual roof A/C units, an 1,800-watt inverter, and an Onan RV QG 5500 gas generator. The exception is the short-wheelbase 29M, which has a 30-amp cord, a front roof A/C, a 1,000-watt inverter, and an Onan RV QG 4000 generator.
Outside, the Windsport offers 64 to 112 cubic feet (1.8 to 3.2 cubic meters) of cargo space, including rotocast storage bins. Other outdoor perks include a shower, an exterior kitchen, an 18-foot (5.5-meter) power legless lateral arm awning with integrated LED lighting, and slide-out room topper awnings. The 34R also has a power entry door awning.
