An important historical note concerning Airstream, a global manufacturer of travel trailers and touring coaches, suggests Airstream founder Wally Byam built his first travel vehicles with the notion that everyone should enjoy the freedom of travel but with all the comforts of home. Airstream recently revealed how solar products manufacturer Zamp Solar of Bend, Oregon, is helping Airstream owners do just that.

Zamp Solar’s smart solar solutions enable Airstream owners to “get further off the beaten path, while keeping their batteries charged and ready to go,” Airstream says. The RV company currently uses Zamp Solar panels in all its pre-installed Airstream solar packages. Additionally, all 2019 travel trailers leaving Airstream’s Jackson Center, Ohio, manufacturing facility with dedicated solar-ready hookups can harness the power of the sun using Zamp Solar’s various rooftop and portable solutions.

Zamp Solar specializes in low-voltage (12-volt) battery-charging solar solutions. Its products include Deluxe Roof Mount and Portable Solar Kits, Solar Plug-N-Play Maintainers, Solar Charge Controllers, Pure Sine Wave Inverters, Solar Panel Mounting Options, and Solar Ports. Besides recreational vehicles, Zamp Solar says its products are ideal for tractors, boats, or outbuildings.

Dedicated To Craftsmanship

Zamp Solar got its start in a garage in 2010 and initially sold its products on eBay. Within five years, the company had graduated to a 20,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, and now claims to operate “one of the only 12-volt solar manufacturing plants in the U.S.” COO Conor Miller describes the company’s dedication to craftsmanship. “All our solar panels are made in America by expert craftspeople,” he says. “Like Airstream, we use the highest-quality materials and we sweat over every step of the process.” Over time, Miller says Zamp Solar “really sought to transition from importing components and assembling solar kits to truly manufacturing solar products here at home.”
