Airstream Adding Smart Control Technology To 2019 Classic

Travel trailer and touring coach manufacturer Airstream has announced a new Smart Control Technology app the company is making available along with its 2019 Classic travel trailer. Starting at $149,900, the Classic is designed for longer trips or full-time living and offers the most storage space of all Airstream models. The new technology gives owners control of numerous trailer settings via their smartphones or other mobile devices; Airstream says it puts “the comforts of home” in owners’ hands.

Among the app’s features you’ll find a checklist tool to help you prepare for trips and a GPS-based RV Locator that lets you keep track of your trailer when it’s not in use or find your way back to it when you’ve been exploring your surroundings. In addition, the technology lets you stay connected when you’re out and about via a boosted Wi-Fi signal and dedicated 4G data. The app also provides direct-dial access to Airstream’s customer service, owner’s manuals, and other information.

Those features are great, of course, but on a more practical level, the app also gives you granular control over a number of basic trailer functions that you’ll use every day. For instance, you can use it to turn on and off interior and exterior lighting from anywhere, adjust the air conditioner and heat pump, open and close the awning, and control the vent fans. You can also use it to monitor their trailer’s propane, water tank, and battery voltage levels.

Airstream makes the Classic available in 30RB, 30RB Twin, 33FB, and 33FB Twin options ranging from 30 to 33 feet (9.1 to 10.1 meters) in length. Besides the Classic, Airstream’s product lineup includes the Nest, Globetrotter, Tommy Bahama, International Serenity, International Signature, Flying Cloud, Sport, and Basecamp trailers, as well as the Atlas, Interstate Lounge EXT, Interstate Grand Tour EXT, and Tommy Bahama Interstate touring coaches.
